There Will Always Be a Chinese State Media IwakabeShigeru 20 Jan 2015 09:33 CET

Dear SPRISCAP colleagues,

I received the link to this article from a friend.

This approach to improving the image of a nation by depicting beautiful women has also been used by Japanese media. Edward Said called Orientalism a tendency of Westerners to regard other cultures such as Asian countries as feminine, timeless, static, undeveloped. This is a new version of inverted orientalism in which there are some elements of femininity but non-western nation is described as more advanced, developed, flexible, and technological by those in non-European countries.
