Hi All,

The CaFTR Steering Committee had their first meeting of the academic year on October 2. Among other agenda items, we discussed a slight name change to our Special Interest Group. Currently, our name is Child and Family Therapy Research (CaFTR). The Steering Committee voted to recommend the following name change to Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapy Research (CAFTR). We agreed to consult the general membership of our Special Interest Group via the e-forum to determine whether to move forward with this name change. Thus, I have constructed the following Doodle poll:

https://beta.doodle.com/poll/8d9iatim5u7739sh

Please add your name and vote "yes" if you agree to the name change or "no" if you do not agree to the name change. Thank you for your time making your voices heard!

We are also considering adding a CaFTR-sponsored preconference workshop to the schedule in Amsterdam in June, 2018 (the annual SPR meeting). Nick Midgley and I have agreed to present the Child Psychotherapy Process Q-Set (CPQ) and Adolescent Psychotherapy Process Q-Set (APQ) at such a workshop, but we want to solicit any other ideas or interests for such a workshop among our general membership. Please submit your ideas on the e-forum or directly to me (ggoodman@liu.edu), and I will construct another Doodle poll so that we can all vote on the contents of the CaFTR preconference workshop. Thanks for your time!

Hi All,

I want to thank Nick Midgley, who both founded this special interest group of SPR and who provided steady leadership and a creative flair to his position as Founding Chair over the past five years. Katharina and I hope to provide the same kind of steady leadership to CaFTR and to continue Nick's bold vision for this group in the next three years. Congratulations, Nick! I'm feeling relieved you decided to remain active on the Steering Committee!

Dear all

I've just come back from the SPR conference in Oxford, where there was a large amount of child therapy research presented, child therapy researchers involved in both the opening and closing plenaries (a first!), a well-attended meeting of the CaFTR special interest group on Thursday lunch-time, as well as a book launch (sadly, without any copies of the book actually available to buy!) for Essential Research Findings in Child and Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy that evening.

[N.B. If you missed this before, the book is available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Essential-Research-Adolescent-Counselling-Psychotherapy-ebook/dp/B01MTDHPU3

I hope others who attended will share their experiences of the conference (highlights and impressions?), and we'll send out some notes from the CaFTR meeting soon; but I also just wanted to let you all know that the conference marked the end of my tenure as chair of the CaFTR special interest group.

It has been a real pleasure and I will continue to be on the steering group, and posting to the e-forum - but as of midnight yesterday, I'm delighted to introduce you to our new Chair and Deputy Chair of CaFTR - Geoff Goodman (from the US) and Katharina Weitkamp (from Germany). I'm sure they will be sharing with you their ideas and plans for taking the interest group forward (including a possible tweak to the name of our group that was discussed at the conference...), and I'm excited to see the directions it will take.

Best wishes,

Nick
