Dear colleagues
Some of you may be interested in this book - the second edition of the PDM, which has just been published by Guilford Press. In my view this offers a great alternative to DSM and ICD, as a diagnostic system which meets psychiatry half way, i.e. paying attention to symptoms and the need for systematic diagnosis, but also giving proper attention to underlying psychic functioning, as well as the social and cultural context of childhood disorders.
It is also very well informed by research, has lots of clinical examples and suggestions for assessment measures - and best of all for those on this e-forum, it has separate (and substantial!) sections on diagnostic assessment in infancy (edited by Linda Mayes et al.), childhood (ed. by Norka Malberg and others) and adolescence (edited by Mario Spenza and myself).
It is a big book - but there is 20% off, below.
Best wishes,
Nick
